Sakurai Sho and Horikita Maki dating!?
This past January Sakurai Sho and Horikita Maki played as rivals in the TBS drama 'Tokujo Kabachi!!'. It seems that their relationship has gone beyond than just being co-stars in a drama.
According to a restaurant manager in Shinjuku, "I don't have the slightest idea why, but somehow Sakurai-kun and Maki-chan have been appearing frequently at a gay bar, and it's also curious that Endo Kenichi is also with them. It's just a combination that's unheard of. With bodies touching, Sakurai-kun and Maki-chan seemed like a pair of lovers. Looking over them from a distant was Kenichi-san, it's like he was their guardian."
Sakurai and Horikita are around the same age, enthusiastic about their jobs and also serious, perhaps these factors make them understand each other well. While filming for Tokujo Kabachi!!, Horikita said "Keeping in mind that we're rivals at loggerheads, I always try to hate him even when there's no filming." Sakurai countered this, replying, "That doesn't happen at all, the smiles actually never stop!"
Of course, Johnny's are fussy about relationships. Sakurai might be using a third person to avoid media scrutiny. Up till now, he hasn't been involved in any big scandals with the ladies. He must be really good at being discreet.
With Arashi's popularity now going beyond SMAP's, it's natural that Sakurai would be careful regarding his relations with women. Being with both an intimate friend and a drinking mate at the same time seems like a sensible method for crisis management. If this relationship turns into love, perhaps Endo will be known as the Cupid with a gentle heart.

Horikita Maki is Miss Lily 2010
Horikita Maki attended an awards ceremony on 4th July to accept the title of 'Miss Lily 2010'. The award is given out to a woman whose looks is most suited to the flower. Lilies symbolize pure love and reporters took the opportunity to ask about her love life. "Have you experienced pure love recently? Is there anyone you like?" Horikita replied noncomittally,"Well, right now.." On receiving flowers, she described her ideal situation. "I'd be happy to get flowers on the first date." She also revealed that she occasionally sends flowers to her mother. "I've been sending them less than before but I meet up with her. We're planning to have sushi together soon," she revealed. Asked about her plans to have children of her own she said,"Right now I think when I'm 32 or so."

Joan of Arc Press Conference
Horikita Maki, Ito Hideaki and the rest of the cast for the stage play Joan of Arc attended a press event on 30th June. Horikita plays the title role of the saint who died at the young age of 19. This being her first stage work, Horikita said,"I don't have the confidence yet and feel anxious but I will work hard so that I can stand on stage with full confidence." She also revealed that she has recently started weight training to build up her strength.
While Joan was embroiled in crusades, what was Hideaki doing when he was 17? "Listening to Ozaki Yutaka with the thought of 'I don't wanna go to school!', but still going obediently anyway,"he replied laughing. Asked about his red eyes, he replied that he had stayed up watching the Japan-Paraguay World Cup game. With a lady? "Unfortunately no, it was with guy friends. I can't say this too loudly but I'm in the process of looking (for a girlfriend)!" he replied, a little extra appeal to ladies interested in watching the play.
Joan of Arc runs at Akasaka ACT Theatre in Tokyo from 30 November to 19 December and at Umeda Arts Theatre in Osaka from 24 to 28 December. Tickets go on sale from 3 July.

On 18th May, Horikita Maki unveiled NTT DoCoMo's new service, the 'i Bodymo' which touts a healthy lifestyle through using a mobile phone. Among other features, entering data into the phone enables you to check if your calorie intake is balanced. "By keying in what you eat, you can control your diet. It will tell you what nutrients you lack and prove to be useful in managing your health daily," said Horikita. 'i Bodymo' also has a 'Motion Support' feature, which can record the number of steps taken as you walk or the distance you have jogged, enabling users to chart their daily physical activity. Okada Masaki also attended the presentation.

EXILE's Takahiro x Maki
EXILE appeared as guests on an episode of Ocha no Mizu Hakase (TBS) that aired on 20th April. When talk came round to having girls screaming out for them at concerts, Takahiro recalled an incident. He said that one time, he was singing and walking along the runway, looking at the faces in the crowd when he noticed a really cute girl that pretty much bowled him over. She seemed so pure, he said. She looked a little embarrassed though and she didn't go 'kyaa' or anything but just looked at him intently. He described her as having a Horikita Maki vibe. During a break, he told Hiro (leader of EXILE and president of talent agency LDH) that there was a really cute girl and he should scout her. Hiro chipped in that this was the first time that Takahiro had ever said that. Takahiro then said that it'd be better to get a staff member to chase her down quick. After the concert ended, the staff came back and told him that she was the real thing, Maki herself! He said now that he thinks back about it, he feels so embarrassed. The clip's about 10 minutes in. Cast of Dareka ga Watashi ni Kiss wo Shita on Opening Day
Horikita Maki, Matsuyama Kenichi, Tegoshi Yuya and Hans Canosa were at Shinjuku Wald 9 on 27th March for the opening day of the movie Dareka ga Watashi ni Kiss wo Shita."With a foreign director, it made for a stimulating set. There are many scenes with only Japanese people too but being with people from different cultures was a learning point. I think the film will act as a good cultural exchange as well,"commented Matsuyama on the international cast and staff.
This is the first that Tegoshi has worked with a foreign film director too. "Together with Director Hans, we picked out the glasses and outfits I would wear. From the start, we would have discussions before making any decisions. Everyday was something new. With English used on set, I was able to experience the feeling of an international school. There was something to look forward to everyday." Hans Canosa commented,"I love Japan. It has been one of my dreams to make a movie with Japanese actors. I am very happy to have worked with the 3 stars who are wonderful people as well."
"What if 3 men confessed to you in real life?" asked reporters to Horikita. "I... I'll boast about it to my friends,"she replied laughing. To the two actors, reporters asked,"If you were a girl, would you date cool Yuji, gentle Mirai or enthusiastic and cheerful Ace?" Matsuyama replied,"Probably Mirai. I have a connection to my character. I myself can be complicated and messy so the character Yuji is a little unpleasant." Tegoshi agreed,"Yuji is out for me too, sorry. I'll choose the boyish and frank Ace." As for Horikita, she replied,"I like complicated, messy people, so Yuji." As Matsuyama did his victory pose, Horikita quipped,"Because he (Matsuyama) just requested very softly that I say that." Matsuyama quickly replied,"You're not supposed to tell!" At the end, the four of them threw tulips, a flower that symbolizes love, into the crowd. Hans Canosa has announced in Facebook that the movie is slated to open in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia with other territories still in discussion.

SuperMaki at Dareka ga Watashi ni Kiss wo Shita preview

A special preview for the movie Dareka ga Watashi ni Kiss wo Shita took place in Tokyo on 24th March. Horikita Maki, Kylee, and Director Hans Canosa attended the event.
Students from the American School in Japan (ASIJ) were also invited to the preview. Their school was used as a backdrop for the movie. "The American School was different from what I had imagined, it was refreshing. But virtually all the conversations I had with my classmates were in English, it was difficult... When the students around laughed at me, I felt embarrassed," said Horikita smiling as she looked back to filming.
"Her nickname is SuperMaki," said Director Hans Canosa with only praises for Horikita who did her own stunts as well. "There were trying scenes but if the director is calling me SuperMaki, I'd have to be able to do everything," replied a blushing Horikita.
15-year-old Kylee, who sings the theme song 'Kimi ga Iru Kara' and also acts as Horikita's love rival in the movie, performed live in front of the audience. Horikita commented,"The lyrics are beautiful, it resonates in your heart. I have goosebumps. It's been a while since we last met, she has grown so much taller! How she has grown. I always thought she was so cute but now she has grown into a fine young lady."
Dareka ga Watashi ni Kiss wo Shita opens nationwide on 27th March.

Nichiyou Gekijou ・ Lead Role Drama Announcement!!
The drama 'Tokujou Kabachi!!' that starts in January has been announced.
Actually we've already cranked in and filming has started!
Maki plays a public notary who works hard.
She permed her hair for the role too, so that she looks mature!
Expect a Horikita Maki different from one you have seen so far.
Look forward to it☆

Sakurai Sho rescues the weak in TBS drama 'Tokujou Kabachi!!'

On 12th November, TBS announced that Arashi's Sakurai Sho (27) will play the lead role in TBS drama 'Tokujou Kabachi!!' (starts 17th January 2010, Sundays at 9). The drama follows the struggles of administrative scriveners who use the law as a weapon to fight for the weak. Horikita Maki (21) will also star in their first work together. With the same broadcast time as NTV's 'Gyouretsu no Dekiru Houritsu Soudansho', it will be a showdown between two law-themed programs.
Sakurai plays the main character Tamura Katsuhiro, a meddlesome character with a burning sense of justice. After his mother was given help, Tamura longs to enter into the world of public notary. In reality he thinks "Law my ass, this isn't right at all!" as he complains and uses the law to help out the weak. The drama with its comical and serious aspects will make viewers think about questions like 'What is justice?' and 'How should people lead their lives?'
On the other hand, Horikita plays the shrewd administrative scrivener Sumiyoshi Misuzu, a former delinquent who hates to lose so much that she has been known to sever ties after losing a game of rock-paper-scissors. Confrontations arise at every opportunity between the complete opposites, the herbivorous Tamura and carnivorous Misuzu, but as time goes by they begin to understand each other.
"'Being a daredevil is not a bad thing'. And 'It's cool to work with all one's might'. I want to reaffirm those ideas as I portray Tamura," commented Sakurai. Others in the cast include Nakamura Masatoshi, Endo Kenichi, Takahashi Katsumi and Asano Yuko.
In the works is also a quiz aired during the program itself. Viewers will send in their answers during the broadcast time. The winner will then receive a call from Sakurai or other cast members, in a first of its kind trial project.

For the 'STYLE Illumination' series, Horikita Maki waits for her date under the winter sky. She gives a peek at the feelings of a young girl when she said,"I long for that situation. Next year, I will brush up on my charms as a woman and become a lovelier lady."
The CM will start airing on the 18th.

Maki and Sho in new drama?
Ohara Masako of comedy duo Kuwabata Ohara wrote an entry titled 'Tokujou Kabachi!!' in her official blog today (9th November). She wrote that she will be making a guest appearance in the first episode. The entry was written after the actors met up for an introduction meeting. "Beginning with the main characters Sakurai Sho and Horikita Maki, the rest of the cast members which includes Nakamura Masatoshi and Asano Yuko were all gathered in full force." She also wrote about seeing Maki without make-up. "She still looks the same!! Too cute!!"
'Tokujou Kabachi!!', a manga that has been published in weekly magazine 'Morning' since 1999 was made into a drama 'Kabachitare' by Fuji TV in 2001. The popular series averaged 19.3% in ratings over 11 episodes. 'Tokujou Kabachi!!' is a continuation of 'Kabachitare' but this sequel is handled by a different station and a completely different cast so it remains to be seen if it would prove to be a hit for TBS as well.
The entry has been deleted and replaced with one about a fabric softener (ﾟoﾟ;) All that's left it a cached screenshot of when she first made the entry.

On 2nd November, Horikita Maki (21) and Panzetta Girolamo (47) attended an award ceremony in Tokyo to receive the 'Best Leathernist 2009' award. The award is given to celebrities who look best in leather products. Horikita who appeared on stage in a black leather jacket said,"I feel like women can be cool in this. I want to be a woman who looks good in leather fashion from now on too."
The award is given out yearly by Japan Leather and Leather Goods Industries Association (JLIA) to promote leather products. Previous winners include Tsuchiya Anna, Sato Erika and Kuriyama Chiaki. Tanihara Shosuke and Karina won the awards last year.
When asked,"Which man do you want to give leather to?", Horikita dodged the question by answering,"Let's see~". Girolamo, wearing a deep purple leather jacket, commented,"Winning the the award already made me happy but winning it together with such a beautiful woman makes me even more so. It's been 20 years since I came to Japan and I often see leather goods in places like Asakusabashi. I think the leather products in Japan are excellent. Purple is a difficult colour but it's great with leather."

Wagaya no Rekishi Press Conference
Shibasaki Kou happy on playing eldest daughter role in Showa era family

A press conference was held on 13th October to announce the production of Fuji TV's 50th anniversary special drama 'Wagaya no Rekishi'. The script is written by Mitani Koki. Depicting a family living through an era of upheaval, the epic drama will air on three consecutive nights next spring.
Besides Shibasaki Kou, Matsumoto Jun from Arashi, Horikita Maki, Nagasawa Masami and Amami Yuki are among the 13 who attended the press conference. Shibasaki Kou, who is playing the eldest daughter, commented,"I'm the only child and I yearned for siblings. I'm happy to be able to experience it now." Playing the eldest son, Matsumoto said,"I have an older sister but having all the 5 siblings in the drama have a meal together is heart-warming. In that moment you feel how great it is to have family. It makes you yearn for a large family."
The others in attendance were Sato Koichi, Sato Ryota, Eikura Nana, Oizumi Yo, Tamayama Tetsuji, Suzuki Sawa, Fuji Sumiko and Nishida Toshiyuki.
