The Storm is Here

9th October 2009 12:34

Are you doing well?

I caught a cold
Just a little one [laugh]

Do take care

These past few days
The typhoon has been terrible

Filming ended
During the peak of the typhoon

I returned home

Upon arrival,
I immediately removed plants
from the verandah

It's good to be safe

The current drama
More than half of the filming is done
Right now it's continuous

I'll do my best

This has been Narimiya.

Tokyo Dogs Press Conference

A press conference for Tokyo Dogs was held at a Tokyo hotel on 8th October. The theme for the Monday night drama this autumn is 'Getsu Kyun'. (Monday Kyun. kyun: momentary tightening of one's chest caused by powerful feelings, heart twinges) This catch phrase was coined in the hopes of a return to the popularity of dramas in the heydays when office ladies would disappear from the streets at night as they head home to watch a drama. In attendance were lead actor Oguri Shun as Takakura Sou, his buddy Kudo Maruo played by Mizushima Hiro and Yoshitaka Yuriko who has her first heroine role in a Getsu 9 drama as Matsunaga Yuki.

Oguri started off the interview."The cast and staff members are really fun and everyday is just 'kyunkyun'. To prepare for this detective role, I had a gunbelt strapped on while just going about my daily life so that I'll get used to carrying a gun. Since I'm doing this, I want to do it like my life depends on it,"he said enthusiastically. About the combination with his buddy Mizushima, he said,"I'm happy to have such a reliable partner and co-actor. He's polite and approaches work very seriously. On the plane back from NY after filming, I was looking at his sleeping face and I thought how great it would be to be Mizushima Hiro (*laugh*). Maybe we'd start going out after the drama ends."

Mizushima said,"Oguri-kun's character is always cool, while the character I play Maruo is the complete opposite. I want to portray that well. I'm challenging myself to things I would not normally do too. Playing a detective without a uniform, a leather jacket as his trademark, and growing out a beard and moustache." About Yoshitaka, he talked about her appeal. "What's charming about her is that you can never guess what she is going to do next so you never lose interest. I'm also looking forward to the different kinds of expressions she will show in her acting from now on. She might be the actress who I could most naturally connect with among all the ones I have co-starred with so far."

Yoshitaka commented,"I'm giving a lot of thought to how to play a woman who has lost her memory. There are many occasions when she is distressed. It's a difficult role but it's an enjoyable working environment with laughter from the cast and staff members always. I'm happy with the fantastic atmosphere." On working with Oguri and Mizushima she said,"We're always together during filming. Flanked by two gorgeous men makes everyday 'kyunkyun'. Usually we just talk about nonsense and there's a lot of joking around too. But when it comes to acting, there's no one cooler than them in expressing themselves."

EXILE is singing the theme song 'Futatsu no Kuchibiru'. Tokyo Dogs starts October 19 at 9pm. The first episode is 15 minutes longer.

Yamamoto Yusuke at 'Pacchigi!' Stage Greet

Yamamoto Yusuke (21) who is playing the lead role in stage play 'Pacchigi!' attended a stage greet event in Tokyo on 6th October. He was joined by Director Izutsu Kazuyuki and cast members Mikura Kana, Ishiguri Hideo, Yamazaki Ikusaburou and Asami Reina. 'Pacchigi!' was originally a movie released in 2005. Set in Kyoto in 1968, it depicts a high school romance between the protagonist Kosuke Matsuyama (Yamamoto Yusuke) and a Korean girl Kyung-ja (Mikura Kana) and touches upon the theme of the social problems between Japan and Korea.

Yamamoto commented,"Of course I'm happy but there's pressure too. I hope to channel that into strength. Pacchigi (in Korean) has the meaning of 'breaking down walls' so I hope to overcome this." The movie featured a lot of fighting and Izutsu promised that the fight scenes in the play be just as good.

"It's too bad I don't really participate in the fight scenes. But there are scenes of me singing as I play the guitar to look out for. I'm practicing. You know I'm hopeless at singing. I think I'll try masking that with feelings instead," said Yamamoto with a smile.

Izutsu was also asked questions about Erika Sawajiri who was the heroine in the movie version. "The way that girl has guts is something else. I'm that way too. There are many in the showbiz world against her. I hope she does not get discouraged by all the media and rumours. I'm rooting for her,"he said, cheering her on.

On playing her role, Mikura commented,"It's a role that won Sawajiri-san many awards so there's a lot of pressure but I'd like to play the role with my own interpretation."

'Pacchigi!' runs from 4th to 23rd December at the New National Theatre, Tokyo.

Club Activities

Mayu is in the Japanese archery club.

Before filming began, she took lessons with an instructor.

Strength was needed to pull the bow, it's more difficult than it seems!

Once during practice, Mao-chan's arm was bruised as the arrow grazed against her as it left the bow.

I took a photo everytime she drew the bow.
The video camera was on too.

After practice sessions, while sitting in the car, she would review the position of her arm with those photos.

The result is perfection, please observe (the archery scene in the movie) carefully!

There's a basketball scene as well

Everyone, what club activities are you in?
