Dangerous Japanese celebrities to search for online
27th October 2009
On 26th October, internet security company McAfee released the names of dangerous Japanese celebrities to search for on the internet. Searches for these names might land the user on websites that that have tested positive for online threats, such as spyware, adware, spam, phishing, viruses and other malware. McAfee also advises users not to download images and such from unknown sites.
Every year McAfee publishes a list of dangerous celebrities to look for in the English language. This year marks the first that it is doing the same for the Japanese language. The top 5 dangerous searches are famous faces that appear in gravure, dramas and commercials. They are all females with the exception of Fukuyama Masaharu.
The ratio of questionable sites among the search results is still low in the case of Japanese searches. Sato Eriko who ranks number 1 still stands at 1.8%. In contrast, Jessica Biel who is first in the English search stands at 20% (1 in 5 chance). The Japanese product manager of McAfee warns users,"Malicious sites in Japanese are small in number but users should not let their guard down as cases of serious damage from infection are on the rise."
